The interior decoration of Keizersgracht represents a well-balanced mix of traditional elements, modern classics, earthy tones and some joyful expressions of art and color. Floor by floor:
Playroom
The playroom features an indoor soccer floor (with full-length bench) that was created with kids in mind, but has proven irresistible to their parents as well. At times, this room is turned into a dining space, seating 35.
Kitchen
The kitchen tends to be the center of life, and combines different functions. In summer, the sidewalk can be used as a terrace with a small dinner table, bean bags, and the best seat in the house; the bench at the front door, overlooking the canal. Behind the large windows is a very comfortable bench with comfortable matrasses and pillows, creating an ideal lounging spot. The heavy round wooden dining table is used for meals, for drinks and as a desk; while inside, it feels almost outside when the front door is left open in summer. The walnut and stone hand-made kitchen provides plenty of storage and cooking space, and also includes a four-stool bar. In the back of the kitchen is a three-story light shaft and a library wall with book shelves going up to 5 meters. Behind this space is a large pantry with a washer/dryer and freezer, and large hand-made closets. Throughout this floor, large colorful works of art (by Eliza Lejeuz and Marleen Vogels) can be found, with the center of attention always being the full-size horse lamp designed by Front for Moooi.
Living room
The living room is divided in two parts; a comfortable lounge and tv area with flat screen and a Jan de Bouvrie designed couch; and a sitting area, made up by a large Minotti Hamilton L-shaped couch, an original Henry Miller Eames lounge chair and a Noguchi table. The mix of white and greys, the wooden floor, the fire place and the large black and white pictures (Aernout van Overbeeke) give this room a classy, yet cozy feel.
Master bed- and bathroom
The master bed- and bathroom take up a full floor. The use of wenge wood and beige tints in the bedroom and the use of natural stone and birch wood in the bathroom, the fire place and the art works in both rooms create a very relaxing and comfortable are of rest. At the same time, the unusual wooden bathtub and washbasin by Agape, and the rain shower by Dornbracht add a modern touch. Two large hand-made walk-in closets and one extra closet allow for proper wardrobe organization.
Top floor
The top floor and the two back rooms provide for 4 flexible bedrooms (two of which have en-suite bathrooms, and two of which share a shower and toilet) that offer something for every taste (a view of the canal or the roof terrace), and can be adapted to personal preferences, by changing the colors of the walls or the furniture. Two of the rooms would make beautiful office rooms as well, and one has even served as a gym in the past.
Roof terrace
The teak-wooden roof terrace was designed to provide the full range of summer comfort, as it faces the South-West and benefits from the sun until sun down (as late as 10 pm on the longest days). There is a large L-shaped lounge area with comfortable cushions and a large table. There is also a full dinner table. All are surrounded by easy to maintain green sections that are drip irrigated. A Banksy-inspired piece of graffiti and a Marinus Klap sculpture provide the final touch in making this a remarkably private and peaceful sanctuary in the middle of town, where at times, the only sounds come from the birds and the Westertoren.
